The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh *spoiler free review*

The Wrath and the Dawn is the first book of a duology. The second book is The Rose and the Dagger. I read the physical book, but I have heard good things about the Audible audio book. I got the books on Amazon, brand new, hardbacks for under $20. So if you’re interested in the duology, I definitely recommend getting them on Amazon.

The Wrath and the Dawn is a story of revenge. The book is written in third person with the majority of the book following Shazi. There are moments where the focus is on other characters such as the Caliph, a childhood friend, and Shazi’s father.

In this book, Shazi is seeking revenge on Khalid the Caliph. Khalid marries a young girl every night; every morning at dawn she is killed. The Caliph killed Shazi’s best friend so she volunteers to marry him, hoping to extract revenge on the Caliph for the murder of, not only her best friend, but also the many other girls who had been murdered. I’m not going to say more than that as to not spoil anyone.

I loved this book! It was a great read which I didn’t want to put down. I really enjoyed the story and loved the incorporation of different cultures. The book was relatively clean. There was innuendo and sensual moments, but nothing too bad. There is a key in the back of the book for some of the terms people aren’t familiar with, which I really enjoyed. This is a YA book, but, unlike many YA books, I didn’t sense immaturity with the characters. I am excited to read the next book.
